Every December, as the year comes to a close, I always find it difficult to not think of the past twelve months. 2014 has surely been a fun ride. I see so much change and growth, both personally and professionally. For us folks over here at Seventy1 Environmental, 2014 represented a monumental year of self-discovery, identity and development.
This time last year, we were still operating as Clearwater Storm Drain Services, Inc. I just searched through some old emails, and it was December 16th of 2013 when we officially made the selection of Seventy1 Environmental for our new name. This ended weeks of brainstorming. The name pays tribute to the 71% of earth’s surface that is water. Choosing a name involved a lot of reflection. Who are we? What do we really do? What do we believe? What is important to us? What do we value? Why? Why are we in this business? And so on.
After six or seven years of operation, we understood ourselves better than when this whole thing began. It was a really fun process to re-evaluate everything we were doing and why we were doing it, and then package it together to form an entirely new and more accurate representation of who we are and what we do.
So 2014 began at the same time our rebranding project began, until we finally launched ourselves as Seventy1 Environmental in April.

In May we introduced ourselves to the public at our 1st annual environmental cleanup event, which we will continue to hold as a commitment to spreading awareness about the stormwater industry as it relates to our planet.

In July we moved into a larger office / warehouse space. Since then, we have gone on to launch several programs that aim to address the impact of stormwater runoff and the importance of understanding the stormwater system. Check them out: Know the Flow, Filter the Flow, CigaretteCollect.
As we close out the year, we are very proud to currently be working with some managers/owners that are getting involved in the elective implementation of filtration systems on their properties. I see this as one more step in the green movement, and am very proud to be a part of it.
I anticipate 2015 will bring many more memories and opportunities, and I look forward to the adventure that awaits. We will continue to strive to keep our clients happy, our people happy, and most importantly, we seek to ensure our planet is happy. Strong relationships, successful businesses, personal happiness and contribution to our natural environment. Onward! 🙂
